Bishop Lohrmann Re-Elected On First Ballot At NWOS Assembly

Bishop & Heidi LohrmannRev. Marcus Lohrmann has been re-elected to serve a second six-year term as bishop of the Northwestern Ohio Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Bishop Lohrmann received 386 of a possible 446 votes on the first ballot at the 2004 Synod Assembly. The gathering of Lutherans in Northwest Ohio was held Thursday through Saturday, May 20-22 at Bowen-Thompson Student Union at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green.

Thirty-three other names were included on the ballot on the ecclesiastical ballot. An ecclesiastical ballot process was used to conduct the bishop’s election. Any eligible individual’s name may be submitted for nomination by voting members of the assembly and then 75% of the votes cast were necessary for the bishop’s election on the first ballot. Lohrmann, 53, was first elected bishop in 1998, succeeding the Rev. James Rave, who retired. Born in Waterloo, Iowa, Lohrmann earned a bachelor's degree at Concordia Senior College, Ft. Wayne, Ind. He earned a master's degree and doctorate from Christ Seminary-Seminex, St. Louis. Following his ordination in 1977, Lohrmann served as pastor of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, St. Louis; St. John Lutheran Church, Hicksville, Ohio; and Olivet Lutheran Church, Sylvania, Ohio. Lohrmann and his wife Heidi are the parents of three children.

Assembly delegatesThe Synod Assembly is the highest legislative authority for the synod. It is held annually in the spring and provides an opportunity to review the ministry of the synod and authorizes the plan to fund the mission for the future. During the assembly, $2,046.17 was collected in offerings for World Hunger and $2,225.88 for Mission Partners.

The delegates of the assembly also voted on 34 elected positions in the synod, including 18 representatives of the Northwestern Ohio Synod at the 2005 Churchwide Assembly in Orlando, Fla. Click here for a complete election results.
