The Great Lakes Consortium for International Training and Development Announces
An Opportunity For Participation In An Exchange Program To: Generate Economic Growth In Tanzania

The Great Lakes Consortium for International Training and Development (GLC) has recently been awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs to assist them with strengthening their private sector approaches to generating economic growth in Tanzania East Africa.

Previous efforts in development by the GLC in Tanzania have been recognized as highly successful, and this grant builds upon some of those previous efforts.

The overall goal of this project is to improve Tanzania’s business environment and their support services for the private sector, to develop business skills, and to provide exposures to our U.S. markets. One of the ways in which this will be achieved is to have exchange delegations from Tanzania come to the U.S. and to also have exchange delegations go to Tanzania from the U.S. These exchanges will be focused upon sharing practical information about business management and development, the proper role of local governments in economic development, the use of technology, entrepreneurial training, business education, business and development financing, business associations, and business resource centers.

There will be at least two delegations from northwest Ohio traveling to Tanzania in 2005 and 2006. Delegation personnel from the U.S. will conduct workshops on their areas of development expertise in various locations in Eastern, Northern, and Central Tanzania and there will be several opportunities for unique cultural experiences. The GLC will be selecting people to fill these delegation slots in the very near future. The persons to be selected will be those having familiarity with development efforts, business ownership, entrepreneurialship, business associations, business managers, government economic development efforts, business educators, business consultants and business experts or similar experiences.

For more information on this opportunity please contact Karl Gingrich, GLC Tanzania Project Advisor at glc-tanzania@tds.net or (419) 387-7356.
